All of this information can sometimes lead to confusion and can become somewhat overwhelming; how many carbs should I eat in a day? What are good protein sources? Should I stay away from gluten? Should I eat more organic products? Why is breakfast so important? Why does our body need antioxidants, etc. etc?</p>
<p>At Café Vida we understand the best approach to developing a healthy lifestyle and good nutrition is by gaining the proper knowledge.</p>

<p>Once upon a time, we enjoyed eating.  We ate wholefoods, made by the loving hands of mom, dad, grandma or perhaps an older sister.  Back then we gathered around a dinning table as a family and we simply ate and enjoyed what we were eating and each other.</p>
<p>Today, it seems food is not to be enjoyed any more.  It has long lost it&#8217;s magic.  Today, food has become no more than  calories, fat grams and &#8220;carbs.&#8221;  Isles of frozen and processed foods in carton boxes are presented to us with detailed scientific descriptions in the form of numbers and micronutrients.</p>
<p>Today, we eat alone, along the company of a big plasma television.  The tradition of eating together as a family or as a community has been lost.  Let alone cooking a meal together with our loved ones&#8211;a custom reserved for those two very special occasions in the year called Thanksgiving and Christmas.</p>
<p>There are two pieces of advice I give everyone who want to start making changes in their eating habits:</p>
<p>Piece of advice number one:  If you can find the content of carbs, fat grams and calories printed anywhere near the food you are abut to eat, STOP!  You should not eat it.  Plain and simple.  Right away, this eliminates ALL processed foods.  It is a very simple rule that invites you to start eating more fresh foods.</p>
<p>Advice number two is: Start enjoying food again and stop punishing yourself.  Experiencing guiltless joy with the foods you are eating is extremely important, because it forces you to eat slowly, eat mindfully and prevents you from overeating.  Of course this goes hand in hand with rule number 1.</p>
<p>Find restaurants who do really care about sourcing out organic and local foods, with chefs who go out of their way to make additively healthy and delicious dishes full of vegetables, good sources of proteins and fats.  And find the time to cook more homemade meals.  After all, the kitchen is the heart of a home; if you don&#8217;t ignite the fire, it loses its warmth.</p>
